These large and spectacular moths gives great scope for photographers to capture action pictures as they come to feed on flowers. Below are a few of my efforts using high speed flash to record them inflight.

The Elephant Hawkmoth coming to Honeysuckle flowers.

High-speed flash records the wing movements.

Note how much the wings have bent as this moth hovers @ about 50 wing beats a second.

The Hummingbird Hawkmoth will visit a range of garden flowers to nectar.

Above a Broad-bordered Hawkmoth nectaring on Vipers bugloss.
